Orgasmic Meditation (OM-ing) is a sequenced practice in which one partner gently strokes the other partner’s clitoris for 15 minutes. I’d heard of OM-ing many moons ago when I discovered a fascinating TED talk by the 46 year old founder, Nicole Daedone. Naturally, I was curious and wanted to experience what all the fuss was about.
When I recently discovered that OM-ing was coming to Byron Bay, I signed up to attend a 2-hour workshop with the Australian director of OM, Prem Kalpa. Prem is a vivacious, well-spoken, gorgeous woman who I instantly resonated with. She tells it how it is and is honest, open and real about her personal OM journey. Prem instantly made me feel comfortable and at ease when invited to get my knickers off and give it a go with my partner (amongst 30 other naked women in the room).
Orgasmic Meditation sounds a little sexual, right? I get it, I thought it was too. In fact I thought I’d have multiple orgasms and transform my sex life in just two hours. Turns out, OM is strictly a meditative practice, and far from the orgy that I imagined.
“OM is a practice (think of yoga, running, violin, etc) that is a gateway to more vitality, connection and turn on. It’s deliberate and structured with repeatable results. It’s a meditation, equally powerful for both partners — only the object of focus is the clitoris. OM is a source of power — a well from which to draw energy. It’s profound, yet simple and you can have it whether you’re single or coupled.” (www.onetaste.us)
I have a long way to go with OM, two hours gave me a glimpse of what is possible as a personal meditative practice. OM taught me that I’ve spent a lot of time in my head during sex, and not enough time feeling the sensations within my body. It also taught me to surrender more to my lover. All-in-all, OM has given me an insight into a whole new world of pleasure and I can’t wait to learn more and experience more over the coming months.
