Chocolate + Almonds To Boost Your Sex Drive?!

In theory, it makes sense to want sex all the time, right? Sex is a healthy and fun part of life—but sometimes it’s not at the top of our to-do lists. Often it just seems too hard to get our kit off and have sex with our partners. (Or even sex with ourselves!)

It is important to note that a rise and fall in libido (sex drive) is completely normal. It’s common for couples to go through stages of not having sex, and that’s okay. But sometimes an extended lack of sex becomes a source of concern or grievance for a couple.

Feeding our bodies with healthy, energising foods is essential for our overall health and happiness—and this is also the case when it comes to a healthy libido. There are certain foods that can boost your passion and increase your energy levels.

Here are the top four foods that I recommend you include in your everyday food intake to help your sexual appetite:

Almonds

Almonds are a great source of essential fatty acids, which help produce testosterone in both men and women. Low testosterone levels = low libido, so it’s important to increase your intake of foods like almonds that will help increase testosterone. Sprinkle almonds on your cereal, throw some in your smoothies, toast them and add to salads, or simply grab a handful once a day as a snack.

Maca

Maca is known in Peru as nature’s Viagra! In Peruvian culture the maca root is thought to boost libido, and increase energy, strength, female lubrication and fertility. Maca can be taken as a powder and added to smoothies or desserts, or you can find it in capsule form at your local health-food store.

Pumpkin Seeds

Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, which is essential for healthy sperm production! Having a handful of pumpkin seeds each day can help prevent testosterone deficiency in men, and will also help maintain healthy levels of vitamins and minerals. Sprinkle roasted pumpkin seeds on salads, soups, lasagnas and breakfast cereals.

Chocolate

Chocolate contains more antioxidants than red wine and helps release a feel-good chemical called phenylethylamine, which stimulates a sense of excitement and wellbeing. The natural form of chocolate is raw cacao, which is considered a superfood! I suggest adding a spoonful of raw cacao powder to smoothies, eating a handful of chocolate-covered goji berries each day, or making some guilt-free raw cacao desserts. Let’s face it, eating chocolate for sexual health isn’t exactly a hardship!

Next time a libido slump creates havoc in your bedroom, head to your nearest market or health-food store and eat your way to a renewed sexual appetite!
